More About Me...you know you want more!
Grown*Up Girlie had this on her blog, so I decided I would participate in it too.

Happy Friday everyone! Yay!!!

What color is most reflective of you?
Interesting question. I have to say blue because I'm a pretty calm person, and I usually gravitate toward that color naturally. I do like the natural-ness (is that even a word?) of green, though.

What time were you born?
11:20 AM

What song are you playing now, or wish you were playing?
I've been on a Nine Inch Nails kick, so if I was listening to my iPod I'd probably be playing something by them.

I teared up when Audrey Hepburn passed away, and Princess Diana was a big blow to me, but I've never actually shed tears because of that.

What color underwear are you wearing?
Black

Do you want a baby?
Is the Pope Catholic?

What does your dad do for a living?
He is a homebuilder

Who do you dislike most at this moment?
Britney Spears (for lack of a better answer--she's my default right now)

Sushi

Did you dream last night?
I can't remember. I usually dream that I'm being chased/attacked, etc. Not fun.

My husband

Write a song lyric that's in your head?
"I'm stuck on Band-Aid, 'cause Band-Aid's stuck on me"

Where is your significant other right now?
Working

Do you have a crush?
See my previous post with my 5 favorite celebs.

What shampoo do you use?
Pantene Blonde Expressions

When was the last time you cut your hair?
At the end of August--I'm getting it cut again tomorrow--short hair needs frequent maintenance!

Are you on any meds?
Sometimes I think my nightstand is a pharmacy.

Screwed Again by J.J. Abrams
Sigh. I'm completely bereft this morning.

My beloved Michael Vaughn is no more.

He was the reason I started watching Alias in the first place. Of course, the fact that an ass-kicking spy girl was at the forefront of the show didn't hurt, either, but when I heard that Michael Vartan was going to be on it I was SO happy! I loved him in Never Been Kissed!

But now, sadly, they killed him off. Bastards.

See, JJ Abrams did this to me once before in his show Felicity. (Yes, I know it isn't anything personal, but still...) At the end of season 1 Felicity had her chance to go on a cross-country road trip with Ben or go to Germany with Noel. I waited all summer with bated breath and when September rolled around I found out that she had chosen to go with Ben. BEN! Ben, who treated her with disdain, dated her best friend, and generally was an ass to her most of the time, while Noel was the nice guy who really cared about her.

You know what I did? I stopped watching the show. The entire second season I stopped watching because I was so pissed. In the end I still think she should have chosen Noel, but, of course, the whole premise of the show was that she followed Ben to New York because she had a crush on him all through high school, blah blah blah.

But anyway, I digress. First of all, why in the hell didn't Vaughn wear a Kevlar vest when he went to deliver the book at the trainyard? Any agent with a modicum of intelligence would be prepared for any eventuality, and the fact that you could be ambushed should have crossed his mind. (Does Kevlar work at close range? I'm not sure)

And ANYONE with a brain would have known that the "Special Agent" guy was a bad guy from the beginning! I knew that when he came in to question Sydney after the accident!

Grr. My anger and grief are great. This may put me over the edge. I may--dare I say it, gasp!--STOP WATCHING ALIAS!

We'll see how I feel next Thursday....

Exhausted...again
Don't know why I'm so tired. I guess it's because I played around with my iPod last night again, uploading songs and such. I'm on a Nine Inch Nails kick because I'm preparing for the show next month and it was IMPERATIVE that I get those songs on my iPod last night or I was just going to freak out! Ha....

DH and I went to the Coldplay show on Friday. It was held at Smirnoff, which is an outdoor ampitheater. We sat on the grass, which is my favorite place to sit--I don't like being in the reserved section under the awning thing, because it gets too hot under there. Plus, I like the idea of lounging while listening to good music. They played a good mix of their music from all three of their albums, and they put on a good show. The only drawback was that parking was bloody awful! We drove around Fair Park for nearly an hour until we finally pulled onto a side road parking lot (a grassy lot, really) that was manned by a man and his daughter. The joke was on all those people waiting to park in the Smirnoff parking lot, though, because we just zipped right across the street and got right into the show! And were able to zip out and beat the traffic after the show!

Watched two movies this weekend--Love Actually (which I've had on the TiVo for about a month now) and Spartan, which has been on there about that long as well. Love Actually was excellent, and I don't know why I hadn't seen it before! Spartan was really good, too. Very dark and mysterious.

I should probably get back to work now. I just wanted to say hello. I am so glad that Rita didn't do as much damage as everyone had originally thought. And I'm glad everyone's okay.

Attack of the Killer Kitties

I received a funny phone call yesterday at work.

We rent a house up here in Frisco, and our property managment company is sorely lacking in customer service. We have had maintenance requests in for a couple of months in some cases, and have never received phone calls or any updates. Every time I try to call them I get voice mail.

Well, our toilet in the guest bathroom was broken, and I'd had this request in for about two weeks when I finally got fed up and left a message (for the thirtieth time) on the company's voice mail saying that I had family coming up to flee the hurricane (okay, so that was a tiny white lie, but we really didn't know until yesterday afternoon whether or not they were going to come up), and this toilet really needed to be fixed.

Well, I got a call at work from the maintenance man saying that he'd fixed our toilet and our A/C in the master bedroom, and that while he was in our house he was attacked by our black cats. Now, I know that BlackJack and Kino are territorial, but woah! The maintenance man said that they would hiss and growl at him and swat at him while he was going around checking everything. He told me he has been around cats all his life and never witnessed anything like this before, and that he actually called one of the ladies at the management company and said, "You wouldn't believe what just happened to me...."

He told me he didn't hurt the cats, just made them chase him into the master bedroom and shut them up in there so he could finish his work in our house.

I called DH and told him and we had a good laugh over that one. I guess now if we are ever burglarized we know what the cats are going to do! Anyone know of where I can find a "Beware of Cat" sign?

Man, I'm on a Roll...
I heard on the radio this morning while getting ready for work that Britney Spears is suffering from postpartum depression. Reports say that she cries non-stop and is worried about her C-section scar and how it's going to look. I've been doing a halfhearted search on the Internet today(in between looking at all this hurricane stuff), but haven't found anything to corroborate my story. So, here's my thoughts on that.

First of all, it's perfectly normal for women to suffer the "blues" for a week to ten days after giving birth. It's when these blues won't go away after a prolonged period of time that it's termed postpartum depression. Since the Britster gave birth 8 days ago, what she has is technically not postpartum depression. What I think she is suffering from is a big dose of reality.

She married a money-grubbing thug who left his girlfriend when she was seven months pregnant with his child. According to the gossip rags, (okay, okay, I know that they're gossip mags, but bear with me) Mr. Britney Spears continued to smoke around the pregnant Britney despite her entreaties for him to stop. Doesn't seem to me that he is a stand-up father kind of guy. And if he's willing to cheat on his pregnant girlfriend with you, he's more than likely to cheat on you, his wife who's recently given birth. Oh wait, then he'd have to give up all that money....

And then what's up with the whole C-section thing? Britney was perfectly capable of giving birth naturally, but decided not to because she didn't want to go through the pain of childbirth. How vain is that? I'm not an expert, but I thought that C-sections were reserved for serious complications during the childbirth process. Hasn't she ever heard of an epidural? Now she's whining about her damn C-section scar. Well, honey, maybe you should have had the baby naturally and then you wouldn't have had that scar. You brought that on yourself.

I really feel for their child. It sounds to me that this little baby has parents who have no business raising children, at least not until they cease being immature brats themselves.

Ah, I feel better now.....

Rita, Go Away!
To My Beloved Houston Friends,

I heard on the news this morning that Hurricane Rita has been upgraded to a Category 4 storm. I'm kind of freaking out right now, knowing that all of you are down there. I wish I was there with you, even though that wouldn't do much good.

To all of my friends down in the Houston area, please be safe. Let me know how you're doing. I'll be here if you need me.

By Special Request....
This is for Krissypoo and her sister Crazy Amy:

Menu (in detail) from yesterday.....

Monday:
Breakfast
For breakfast I had my usual--Maple & Brown Sugar Frosted Mini Wheats with vanilla soymilk. I loooove Frosted Mini Wheats, especially these, since they're not too sweet. I like to let them sit for a minute or to let the sweet coating kind of gum up. On my way to work I drank the coffee I had lovingly ground and brewed--right now we're drinking the Signature Blend from Super Target--not bad at all.

Lunch
Lunch consisted of the lazy lasagna I made the night before. Here's what you do if you want to make it:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Saute garlic in some olive oil until golden. Brown 1 lb of ground pork in the skillet, add a half palmful of crushed red pepper, basil, and oregano. Salt and pepper the meat.

While pork is browning, set your pasta water to boil. When boiling, add salt and your pasta (I like bowties or rigatoni).

After the meat is browned, add a little pasta sauce and keep warm. Finish boiling pasta, strain, and dump the meat into the pot with the pasta, add about half a jar of pasta sauce and a small container of ricotta cheese. Mix well.

Layer your mixture into a casserole dish like this: pasta mixture, sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese. Do this until the pasta mixture is all gone. Top with more sauce and cheese. I usually use about a jar and a half of pasta sauce, just so everything is all covered in tomatoey goodness.

Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes, or until cheese is golden brown and bubbly.

Dinner
DH went out to watch the Cowboys/Redskins game last night, so I went to Fadi's Mediterranean Restaurant and got their sampler, which consists of small portions of their salad, veggies, and your choice of a meat. I sampled various salads (the tabbouleh, hummus, and fattoush were wonderful!), hot vegetables (the cauliflower is my favorite, followed by the spinach), and a roasted piece of lamb. It was SO good! I watched part of Love Actually that I had TiVo'ed but ended up talking on the phone to my girlies.

Man, now I'm hungry!

This weekend is going to be cool. If the weather holds up, DH will be trekking to H-town to visit Eric & Christine, and I will be attending the Coldplay show here in Big D with my friend Laura. I can't wait!

Okay, you two, are you satisfied now????

More Insight into my Husband's Taste in Music
Christmas has come early to the McGee household. This evening, DH and I trekked to Best Buy and we picked him up a brand-spanking-new iPod Nano. He has been about to bust from wanting it so badly, that I caved in and said he could get one. (Aren't I just a fabulous wife?)

All I have to say is, holy crap, folks. This thing is freaking awesome. It's so damn TINY! It makes my iPod Mini look like the fat older sister.

So this evening has been spent with both of us on our laptops in the family room, browsing iTunes for new music to put on our respective iPods. Which is where I learned a lot about my husband's musical tastes. He likes 60's and 70's rock, mainly, with some blues, jazz, and a smattering of other stuff. He HATES hip-hop, or rather, the hip-hop that is popular right now.

I, on the other hand, LOVE hip-hop. Especially the stuff that's out now. The whole over-the-top aspect of newer hip-hop really appeals to me. I think it's great. I CAN'T STAND 60's and 70's rock, though, with the exception of Jimi Hendrix.

I have rather eclectic tastes in music, ranging from hip-hop (Ludacris, Snoop Dogg), to classical (Baroque is my favorite classical period), to Tejano and Latino, and more specific artists from Bjork, Nine Inch Nails (my favorite band), The Cure, Coldplay, Queen, ABBA, and lots of other stuff--I could fill up a lot of space if I named everything I liked.

However, one song I'd really love to add to my collection is "Caffeine" by The Suspects. If anyone out there has an MP3 file of that, I'd be eternally grateful if they would send it to me!

Have a great evening, everyone!!

Another Week Gone By...
Man, why do the days go by so fast? It seems that it was Monday just a few minutes ago! Not that I'm complaining, of course, but sometimes it's astounding how quickly the days pass.

It was downright chilly this morning! I got out of my car to go into the building at work today and the air was crisp and cool. I wanted to dance around in the parking lot. Nice to know that Fall is coming.

I ended up completely reinstalling the operating system on my compter here at work and, thankfully, everything is working better and running faster. I'm still having problems with my Outlook, though.

My yoga class was better on Wednesday. I sat in the back and made friends with two other women who were on either side of me. Although I don't think I overdid it, my shoulders said otherwise and I've been kind of stiff in my upper back. My instructor is still difficult to understand, and we did some weird exercises (some kind of thing with the eyes), but I felt better about it than I did the first Wednesday.

I ran into an old friend from high school at Target last night, and it turns out that she lives at the next major intersection over from me! It was totally random and really cool. We exchanged numbers and are planning on getting together soon.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

My Eye is Twitching...
Does anyone know what causes or how to get rid of an eye twitch? I started having one about 9:00 this morning and it's driving me crazy!

My computer here at work is giving me fits. Nobody blew away the operating system before I came on board so I apparently inherited all the crap that the previous employee had on here (spyware GALORE) and I'm trying to get all the software and stuff from Tech Support today so I can blow the operating system away myself and reinstall everything. My Outlook won't work, so I can't get any e-mail from the outside (or internally, for that matter), and the machine runs really slow, so it takes forever to do anything, and I'm limited in my knowledge of all this stuff, so I feel like my hands are tied. Oh well.

Other than that, things are going well at work. I'm finding everything to be challenging, and dare I say it?, fun. I hope I don't jinx myself with that comment!

I go to yoga again tonight--this time I plan to get there later and sit in the back. Perhaps I won't feel so intimidated this time!

Have a good day everyone!

Yoga, Gasoline, and Yummy Nutella...
I went this morning to fill up my tank because gas had gone down to $2.89 a gallon--and the numbers kept going up and up and up. I stood there in disbelief as the little digital screen went up past $25, past $30, and even past $35. I put $37.50 worth of gas in my car! It was a total shock to me--that is the most I've EVER spent for a tank of gas in my life! And I used to grumble when gas went up to $1.50--boy, how I miss those days!

Then again, though, since my commute has been cut in half, I only fill up about every week and a half, up from once every four to five days when I used to work downtown--yet another reason I'm thankful they cut me loose!

Went to my first real yoga class last night. It was...interesting. The class was held in the cafeteria of a high school, and the instructor was a diminutive woman from India, I think. I had a very difficult time understanding what she said, so I just watched her as well as the other students. I felt a bit intimidated because it seemed that everyone else knew exactly what they were doing and I was sitting there, in the front, no less, feeling slightly out of place. I didn't let it deter me from my workout, though, and did come out of it feeling renewed and refreshed. I will go back, of course, since I paid for 8 weeks of classes, but I have to say I think I like practicing on my own better than being in a group environment.

Work's going well. I'm preparing a competitive analysis to give to my boss for his upcoming meeting in Japan next week, and I got to meet the entire office this morning, too--mine is a small company of about 65 employees. When I got back to my desk I ate my favorite new snack--cinnamon graham crackers and Nutella spread. Man that stuff's good!!!!

Anyhow, back to work!

My World in a Nutshell
Hey y'all,

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been trying to get settled in at the new job, and when I get home in the evenings, I'm completely wiped out. I spent almost all of Saturday sleeping! It's funny, you never think that sitting at a desk doing work would tire you out, but I guess after 6 weeks of doing practically nothing, my brain had atrophied somewhat. It's getting easier now...

My job is pretty cool so far. I'm working on some competitor analysis right now, updating the databases and such. I'll also be working on some web stuff once my software comes in, and the cool thing about this job is that I'll get to travel a bit, but not until March for sure--I'll be going to a tradeshow in good ol' Vegas.

Everyone is really nice, and I like the small company atmosphere--my department consists of 5 people--but the only thing is it's so freakin' QUIET in here! I have my iPod on constantly just to have some sound.

I start my yoga class tomorrow, and I'm excited about that! I'll be going every Wednesday from 6:30 - 7:30 for the next 8 weeks.

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day!!!
