Twenty-Nine Years and Counting....
This past weekend was the Great Austin Blogger Encounter, and I wanted to say that meeting everyone was so awesome, and thanks for the birthday wishes and yummy cake! It was so much fun and I hope to do it again soon!

Yesterday was my birthday, the big 2-9, and I decided to take the day off from work so I could do whatever I wanted. So, I got up around 8:30, called my mom and talked for an hour or so, and decided that I wanted to get a massage, so I called up the massage place and scheduled my very first professional massage for 11:30.

Let me tell you, that was the most relaxing thing I've ever done! I could hardly drive home! Good thing I don't live far from the place. DH took the afternoon off and took me out to lunch--we'd originally planned on going to Texas de Brazil, but after my muscles being turned into putty I didn't think I could handle the drive and then the HUGE meal of meat, meat, and more meat, so we decided on Fuddrucker's instead, which was right by our house.

After the best hamburger ever, we went back home and Joey wouldn't leave me alone--he kept putting his front paws up on the couch and meowing at me, so I said, "Do you want to take a nap with Mommy?" and he immediately trotted toward the bedroom, where we cuddled up for a couple hours and I slept off the massage fog.

For dinner, DH put the cutest star candles on top of a mini-chocolate cake with Oreo buttercream frosting and sang "Happy Birthday" to me, which was probably my favorite part of the day--he has a really nice singing voice but never uses it, so that was very special to me! Then we watched the Battlestar Galactica we had Tivo'ed and went to sleep soon after!

What a great day....and a great weekend! I'm going to post about the last part of my weekend a little later, because I wanted a post dedicated to the experience, but I just wanted to tell everyone that I am so blessed to have all of you as friends. Thank you for being so wonderful--my heart is full.

Requiescat in Pace
Our Dear TiVo

It is with a heavy heart I come to you tonight, dear bloggers. Our TiVo, the light of our lives, has passed away.

Although we did not want to admit it, the end has been coming for some time now. When we would be watching a show, be it live or recorded, the stream would be interrupted and the picture would get pixellated. All our best efforts to save our dear friend were for naught.

We will remember fondly the times spent with you, rewinding and replaying things, setting Season Passes to beloved shows like Alias and Battlestar Galactica.

You are gone, but you are certainly not forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you contribute to our adoption of an orphaned 80-hour TiVo, forlornly sitting in China waiting for us to pick it up.

Tuesday Tracks
Not with it this morning. Somehow managed to brew the worst-tasting coffee in the entire world, and if I don't get my coffee drunk on the way into work, I'm screwed. Bleh.

Here's what was on my iPod this morning during my commute:

Borriquito - Peret (got this off iTunes a while back-it's fun)
Liar (Reptile Demo) - NIN
Ladies Night - Kool & the Gang
Señorita - Justin Timberlake
Polly - Nirvana (from Unplugged)
Lose Control - Missy Elliott (this got to be a bit much, so towards the end I hit the "next" arrow)
Sparks - Coldplay (which was nicer, but started making me sleepy...)
Panama - Van Halen (woo!)
Into the Void - NIN

So now I'm trying to wake up, drinking the swill here at work they like to call coffee. Urg.

In Progress
So I found a new template this morning, from Blogger Templates and have decided to try it out. I have finally found something that feels somewhat like "me," especially the stars on the sidebar!

I'm going to live with this for awhile and see how I like it. :)

It's all rainy and cold here. It's sort of nice, and we definitely needed the rain.

That's all for now, folks!

Martinis and Early Birthday Gifts
Friday night. Ahhhh....

So DH had to go back to work tonight because he's doing data migration. I don't really know what that entails, other than he will most likely be home after about 1 am or so.

What's a girl to do, on a Friday night, home alone without her husband?

Drink martinis of course!!

The ingredients:
3 oz. vodka
1 T. vermouth
Olive juice to taste

Alas, I cannot locate my shaker, so my martinis will have to be stirred. I put them in a pitcher in the freezer so they can be nice and cold for later!

I also thought, well, I think I'll eat some sushi. Voila! Spicy tuna rolls!

This pic's for Liz--my pink flannel PJs with shoes on them!!!

But that's not all! Today I received two birthday gifts--from my mom, a Kate Spade bag! My first real designer bag! Yay!

And from the lovely, wonderful Poppy--the applegeeks.com RAWR T-shirt! Now we can match!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Now, I think I will leave you. Since DH is gone I think I will watch the Masterpiece The-a-tah I have had TiVo-ed for a week: Henry VIII with Helena Bonham Carter as Anne Boleyn! Can I be any happier right now???

Have a great evening, everyone!!!

Just for Fun...
You know what I love about my iPod? The shuffle feature. Here are the songs I heard on the way to work today:

Baila esta Cumbia - Selena
Get Up (Like a Sex Machine) - James Brown
All the Love in the World - NIN
Baby Got Back - Sir Mix a Lot
Feel Good, Inc. - Gorillaz
Hot in Herre - Tiga (it's a cover, and it's AWESOME)
Fly Me to the Moon - Frank Sinatra
Slave - David Garza
To Be with You - Mr. Big
Panama - Van Halen (Best guitar intro in the history of rock-n-roll)
Burn - NIN
The Chauffeur - Duran Duran

Pretty varied stuff, huh? Just felt like sharing!

Happy Thursday!

A Very Special Day...
My favorite picture of Joey, taken in my apartment about 3 years ago.

I'm sure that most of you know just how much I love my Joey. Well, today marks the 6th anniversary of the day I adopted him. I like to call it his birthday, though, even though he was 3 when I got him. :)

Let us hearken back to the year 2000. I'd moved out of the place I shared with my ex and let the cat that we had during our relationship stay with him (because Rufus always liked him better anyway). Never one to be without a feline companion, I went to the SPCA in Houston in mid-January 2000 to look at the cats for adoption.

Joey going nuts with the boogie mat (Thanks, Poppy!)

I'd considered kittens, but, as I walked down the aisle, I spotted a 3-year-old, beige-colored tabby sleeping in one of the cubbies next to his litter box. A closer inspection showed that he was a bobtail--my beloved first cat Bobbi was a bobtail--and I immediately requested to see him.

A short time later he was brought to me in one of the "Get Acquainted" rooms, and when they put him on the bench with me, he immediately got into my lap, put his front paws on my chest, closed his eyes and started purring. I knew, right then and there, that I had found my cat. Or maybe he had found me.

In any case, Joey has been my constant companion for the past six years. He greets me at the door when I get home and goes to bed with me at night--he usually lies next to me while I'm reading, and leaves when DH comes to bed. He loves to play with raffia, and, since he knows where we hide it, on the weekends he'll go to where it's hidden and meow and meow for it, begging us to drag it on the floor so he can chase it.

Joey tolerating my photo-taking last night....

I've been grateful for the six years we've had together. I hope to have many more years with my beloved Joey. I still want to clone him, though.....

Adventures in Decorating, Part Three
As most of you know, for Christmas I got my very first sewing machine, which tickled me to no end, I tell you.

I've been itching to use it, and yesterday got my chance. Went to the fabric store and they were having a huge sale, and I got ugly pillows for 50% off the sale price, so I got 5 pillows for $11. While I was there, I bought fabric to cover the pillows.

In our bedroom we have a light green duvet on the bed, and purple sheers on the windows from the first incarnation of the bedrom decor. (I like to re-do the bedroom about once a year, and we previously had a royal purple comforter on it) I wanted to find a way to tie in both colors together, and found a great purple and green stripe fabric that went PERFECTLY with our colors! I also bought some solid purple fabric that's a corduroy with a diamond quilting on it to go with the purple stripe fabric.

Here are the photos....and this is only the beginning!

There are purple velvet shams behind the green ones....you can't tell very well in the picture.

Joey loves the new bedroom decor!

Shameless Ploy for Attention...
All right, everyone. Today is the last day of National De-Lurking Week.

I KNOW there are others out there who read my blog. The only people who have commented are people I already know read my wonderful words!

I look at other blogs who have posted the same thing I did, and THEY got lots of comments. My feelings are hurt, here.....

Thank you :)

(From the previous post)

Okay, y'all, if there are any lurkers around here, you've been found out!

Not really--but this IS National De-Lurking Week. So why don't you make this chick happy and post a comment. A nice one. About what a cute, funny, awe-inspiring person I am and how you love my blog and actually check it at least 10 times a day....

You know who you are, so come out already! :)

Trying to Turn Over a New Leaf
Well, it's Friday, everyone! Woo!

So on Monday, besides going to the dentist and getting all that crap done (for the record, my back tooth where the filling fell out is still bugging me, but I'm tired of going to the dentist!) I went to see a nutritionist. For one reason, well, I'm quite hefty. Let's just call a spade a spade. However, regardless of my weight, I look damn good, so body image is not the problem.

I'm doing this for a different purpose: I want the baby we're going to have to live in the best possible womb environment. When I get pregnant. Man, I'm obsessed already about this baby stuff! I wish I were pregnant right now.....

Anyway, I digress. I thought that I needed to have a professional look at my diet and jump start me on eating better, so I went to the nutritionist. She told me that I was eating too much salt (duh) and too many processed foods (duh again) and one of my problems is not being prepared (duh one more time!) Oh yeah, and I need to exercise more. Basically, she told me exactly what I already knew, but I think it helped to hear it from a professional.

So, this week I've been doing pretty well. Keeping the carb consumption low-ish, preparing my meals and snacks in advance for the workday, and cooking a nutritious meal at night. I even bought real food to cook over the weekend, since that's when we run out of food and are all, "We're STARVING! Let's go to Taco Bell!"

On my quest for better eating, I found these great little nutrition bars. They're called Larabar, and they're made from 100% raw ingredients, no added anything, good carbs, good protein, and they are damn tasty! I have tried the Cashew Cookie and the Cherry Pie (which tastes just like it, matter of fact.) The photo has the Apple Pie one (in the green wrapper,) but in my quest to save a co-worker from getting breakfast out of the vending machine, I sacrificed that one. Now, if you buy one, don't let the look of the actual bar scare you. It looks kinda funny, but tastes REALLY GOOD.

I get them at Kroger, but I think they are available at Whole Foods and nutrition stores. You can order them online, too.

Well, I'm off, to go home and watch Battlestar Galactica tonight! DH will probably watch it, but will most likely be playing with his new XBOX 360 that he got this morning. He's so damn excited--it's kinda cute.

This is What My Tax Dollars are Paying For?
Late this morning I went back to the dentist because I discovered another lump on my other cheek (turns out I am having an allergic reaction to the anesthetic, nothing major, just annoying) and while I was driving there had it on NPR, listening to the Judge Alito hearings. I'm not really a political person, but I thought, "What the hell? I need to keep up with some current events besides the fact that Angelina Jolie is pregnant."

Ted Kennedy was questioning Alito about an extremist conservative group Alito had joined while in college (or was it after? I can't remember), and he wanted to immediately call the committee into closed session to vote on whether or not they would subpoena membership documents from this group. Committee Chairman Arlen Specter said he would take the subpoena request into consideration, since this was the first time he'd heard of it. Kennedy then said, "Well, I sent you a letter about it back in December," and Specter said, "I never received it," and Ted Kennedy got all up on Specter about what he percieved was a denial of his request, and insisting that Specter HAD received his letter.

What followed was at least 5 minutes of these two going back and forth, arguing like two little boys over who crossed the finish line first in a race. I don't think Alito responded to one more question before they broke for lunch.

I was just sitting there in my car, appalled, at this childish display I was hearing. Good God, people, you aren't there to talk about petty shit between you, you pompous airbags, you are there to QUESTION THE NOMINEE ABOUT HIS VIEWS! From what I heard before the immature shouting match, it seems like they're trying to goad Alito into saying something that can be taken the least bit out of context and throw it back at him.

Is this what my tax dollars are paying for? For a bunch of long-winded, arrogant old men to sit there and basically do nothing but talk talk talk about everything but the issue at hand? They just like to hear the sound of their voices. And then they probably went to lunch for 2 hours, had some drinks (we all know that Kennedy did), parked illegally while at lunch, and then came back and bickered some more.

The thing is, the Democrats don't like Alito, but the Republicans do. If the shoe was on the other foot, and there was a Democratic President in office nominating a Supreme Court Justice candidate, the same thing would be happening--the Republicans wouldn't like him or her, and the Democrats would.

New Year = New Calendar(s)
I love the turning over of a new year. This is because I get to have a new calendar. I like to try to get a different style every year, one that reflects my personality. At the house this year we have a calendar of New Orleans scenes--not only did we get to donate to Katrina efforts with this calendar (well, Ryan and Alley did since they gave it to me for Christmas,) every time I look at it I'm reminded of our wedding and what a great time we had.

For work, I usually get a mini calendar. This year I was torn between two different ones: Naughty Naughty Pets and Warhol's Desserts. I ended up buying both.

Naughty Naughty Pets is a collection of children's stories about--what else? Naughty pets. I found these books at Half Price Books a while back and laughed my head off, especially at the one about Kiefer--a black cat who likes to leave "presents" for his owner.

Warhol's Desserts is a collection of drawings by Andy Warhol of different desserts. It's very colorful and whimsical, but after viewing this calendar I wonder why Warhol was such an influential artist. Do you see the proportions of that cake stand? In reality that stem would snap right off! Hell, I could draw that! Still, I think it's fun, and since I love desserts, well, I couldn't resist.

Now my cube is decorated by two very colorful, very whimsical calendars. I'm usually drawn to more "serious" calendars of photography or scenery, but this year I thought I'd shake it up a little. I'm happy that I did.

Lots to Catch Up On...

Yesterday, as some of you know, I spent at home. Why, you ask? Well, Saturday I went to the dentist (at 7 am) for a possible root canal. Turns out they didn't need to perform that procedure on my tooth, as the decay wasn't that deep. While I was there I asked what other work needed to be done (I have to have quite a bit done, since it's been 5 years since I had been to the dentist and I needed work done 5 years ago but never had it) and they said I had another tooth on the right side that the filling needed to be replaced and two cavities on the left side that should be filled. So I said, okay, and made an appointment to go back at noon.

During my second exam, I had to be shot up with novocaine twice because I could feel the dentist drilling, incidentally numbing my face up to my eyeballs (I kid you not, when I took out my contacts when I got back home I couldn't feel my fingers taking them out), and he filled the cavities. I go home and promptly fall asleep. Dinnertime rolls around, and when I start chewing on my left side, I find it REALLY painful, and then discover a really hard knot on the right side where they had the potential root canal fixed. I thought, "Something isn't right," and resolved to call on Monday and get it taken care of.

Yesterday I went to the dentist AGAIN, and turns out the filling on my left side didn't stick and they had to re-fill that cavity, and the knot on my right side is my tooth, traumatized by the repair, saying, "Ouch!" They gave me antibiotics for that, and if the swelling doesn't go down, then I am going to have to have a root canal on THAT tooth. Yay.

Numb up to my eyeballs again, I went home and did some housework, taking a personal day. Today I'm still kind of sore but can actually open my mouth a bit wider than I could yesterday--you should have seen me try to eat dinner. Let's hope that I don't need another root canal!

Apollo, I'm Comin' to Getcha!
Sorry I've been under the radar today--my company is participating in a tradeshow in March in Vegas (Woo!) and this morning was dedicated to setting up the booth, checking to make sure all the parts were there and making a list of those that weren't, showing the President of the company the fruits of our labor, and then taking it down.

This afternoon has consisted of meeting about what we need to do to get ready for the tradeshow: ordering equipment, supplies, going over flight arrangements, etc. In all, this is the first time I've been at my desk for any length of time since 8:00 am.

Anyhoo....tonight is a very special night. In the two years I've been married, it seems that DH and I have blended our interests somewhat. Case in point: Science Fiction. Before I met DH, I scoffed at science fiction, because, to me, it was all a bunch of unrealistic stuff where people in bad alien suits run around killing humans. DH would watch these shows on TV, read books of this genre, and I would do my own thing. Until, one Friday, on a whim, I sat down with him to watch Battlestar Galactica. And I've been hooked ever since--damn you DH!

The title of the blog entry refers to one of the main characters--Jamie Bamber, who plays the luscious Apollo (that's him on the left in the photo). In the first part of this season he was shown with just an itty-bitty towel covering his manly bits. All I gotta say is damn.

And you know what? It premieres TONIGHT! I can't wait!

Yee Haw!

(DH, you know you're the only man for me!)

This or That
FYI: 26 Days Until the Anniversary of Bdogg's Birth

You ever have those days (weeks) where you just aren't motivated to post? Well, this is one of them. I can't say that many cool things are going on at the moment, just trying to get caught up from the chaos that is the holiday season.

But maybe I have the motivation after all.....

Kino has been increasingly annoying lately--I wonder if it's because we've been gone so much? Woke up on New Year's Eve morning to find out he'd dumped over the water bowl and gotten water EVERYWHERE. So, DH and I decided that he needed a little time outside. Supervised time outside, though. We actually went out and bought a harness and leash for the cat. In red, natch. The minute we got home with our purchase DH immediately hooked Kino into the harness and decided to take him outside. I watched for a little bit, and it appeared that Kino actually LIKED it--he'd roll around on the grass (probably to get the dorky harness off, but we like to think it's because he likes outside) and then walk around in the grass. I'll try to get a pic tonight when DH takes him out again.

In addition to all the useful information I learned on my business trip to the East Coast area, I also came back with a devil of a cold. Was even sick on Christmas day, just lying on the couch. I did get to eat Christmas dinner in my PJ's though, so that was cool. DH ended up getting the cold from me, but wouldn't you know? It lasted half the time I had it and wasn't nearly as severe! I'm still coughing and hacking up stuff! And I thought vitamins were supposed to help you ward off stuff? BAH!

Speaking of vitmains, though, I really can't stop taking them, because they're for a purpose. You see, dear bloggers, I'm taking prenatal vitamins for the preparation of a little Bdogg or DH to live inside my womb for nine (ten) months. NO, I'm not pregnant yet, but we are actively trying. Even have our little calendar to record things to help calculate due dates and stuff when the time comes. We're very excited and, even though we're prepared for pregnancy should it happen tomorrow, we hope that it will take a little longer than a month to conceive! I have heard how some people believe that once you go off the Pill it takes a year to get pregnant and then boom! Pregnant the first time they try! I talked to my doctor about this and she told me that the female body is sometimes most fertile as they come off the Pill, so we shall see!

Pilfered this from randomness...feed your mind and your blog. It was originally supposed to be done on November 13, but, oh well.

1. Coke or Pepsi: Diet Coke with Splenda!

2. Summer or Winter: Hmmm.....winter.

3. The beach or a pool: A pool, especially if it's a private one!

4. Early morning or late at night: Aren't these technically the same? I can pretty much do either one, but I prefer mornings.

5. DVD or VHS: DVD.

Merry New Year!
Wow. 2005 is over. I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year holiday!

DH and I spent NYE with his family and had our Christmas at this time, too. This is kinda cool, since I have two families of my own (my parents split up when I was 4,) so we've had "Christmas" since the first of December. :) Not that the gifts are all that important, but, well, you know what I mean.....

We saw two movies this weekend: Fun with Dick & Jane, and Memoirs of a Geisha. D&J was entertaining, but I was a bit irked when I found out it was a remake. Has Hollywood ran out of original ideas? It seems lately that every other movie out there is a freakin' remake. All in all, though, it wasn't bad. Memoirs, while beautiful in scenery, was so-so. Parts of it seemed to drag along, and portions of the book were omitted entirely. I feel that if you hadn't read the book, it might be a bit difficult to follow. So, my opinion: Read the book first, and if you REALLY want to, see the movie.
